Welcome to our series on cruise ship dining. Today we focus on Carnival Cruise Line
Carnival Cruise Line has built its reputation as the “Fun Ship” brand, and nowhere is that more obvious than in its dining scene. From poolside tacos to elegant steakhouse dinners, Carnival caters to every kind of eater whether you’re a comfort-food fan or a foodie looking for something special. Let’s take a tasty walk through what a day of dining on Carnival looks like.
Morning: Start the Day Right
Breakfast on Carnival is a true spread. The Lido Marketplace buffet dishes up everything from scrambled eggs and pancakes to tropical fruits and pastries. For something more custom, head to the BlueIguana Cantina and build your own breakfast burrito fresh tortillas, eggs, and salsa options make it a guest favorite.
Prefer to ease into your morning? The main dining room offers sit-down service with omelets, eggs Benedict, and hot coffee served at your table.
Foodie tip: Grab a plate of smoked salmon and bagels from the buffet it’s a hidden gem many cruisers overlook.
Midday: Burgers, Chicken & More
By lunchtime, the pool deck becomes a foodie playground. Carnival’s partnership with celebrity chef Guy Fieri shines at Guy’s Burger Joint, where juicy burgers come topped with donkey sauce and fresh-cut fries. Across the way, Shaq’s Big Chicken has become a must-try with crispy chicken sandwiches, tenders, and even breakfast biscuits if you’re an early riser.
The Lido buffet stays open with international choices and themed meals (think Caribbean jerk chicken or Italian pasta). For seafood fans, some ships feature Seafood Shack, a casual counter serving lobster rolls, fried shrimp, and clam chowder for a small charge.
Afternoon: Snacks & Sweets
After a swim or shore excursion, Carnival’s snack options hit the spot. The Pizzeria del Capitano (or Pizza Pirate, depending on the ship) serves fresh pies 24/7—perfect for an afternoon slice. Craving something sweet? Head to Swirls, where the self-serve soft-serve ice cream machines churn out vanilla, chocolate, and twist cones all day.
Foodie tip: Don’t forget Carnival’s afternoon tea service (on select ships and sailings). It’s a delightful spread of finger sandwiches, pastries, and, of course, a proper cup of tea.
Evening: The Main Event
Dinner is when Carnival really brings out the variety. In the main dining room, menus rotate nightly with everything from prime rib and roasted duck to Carnival’s signature warm chocolate melting cake. If you want to elevate your evening, Carnival’s specialty dining options are well worth it:
Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse – Classic cuts of beef, lobster tail, and fine wines.
Rudi’s Seagrill – Upscale seafood dishes with chef Rudi Sodamin’s creative flair.
Bonsai Teppanyaki & Bonsai Sushi – A mix of interactive hibachi and fresh sushi rolls.
Emeril’s Bistro 1396 (on Mardi Gras) – Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse’s take on New Orleans-inspired cuisine.
Foodie tip: Don’t be shy about ordering multiple appetizers or entrées in the main dining room—it’s part of the Carnival fun!

When the music is still pumping and the dance floor is full, late-night eats keep the party going. Carnival’s Pizza Pirate/Pizzeria del Capitano stays open into the early hours, and many ships also offer late-night snacks at the buffet. If you’re near the comedy club or piano bar, you’ll often find small bites available to keep your energy up.
