If you’re sailing with Carnival Cruise Line during the holiday season, you may be wondering when your ship will start looking a little more like Christmas. Carnival is already making plans to bring the holiday spirit onboard, and brand ambassador John Heald has shared the official 2026 decorating schedule for the entire Carnival fleet.
The schedule gives cruisers a good idea of when they can expect to see Christmas trees, lights, garland, and other festive decorations throughout their ship. Whether you're planning a Thanksgiving getaway, a December cruise, or even ringing in the New Year at sea, there will be plenty of holiday spirit onboard.
According to Heald, the first Carnival ship to receive its holiday decorations will be Carnival Encounter, which will begin its Christmas season with its November 22, 2026 departure from Brisbane, Australia. The six-night cruise includes stops at Airlie Beach, Cairns, and Willis Island.
On the other end of the schedule, Carnival Luminosa will be the last ship in the fleet to receive its decorations. The ship won't be decorated until its December 14 departure from Brisbane. This will also be Luminosa's first sailing from its Australian homeport following a scheduled dry dock refurbishment in Singapore.
Here is the complete 2026 Carnival Christmas decorating schedule. Each date represents the first sailing that will feature the holiday decorations onboard.
| Date | Carnival Ships |
|---|---|
| Sunday, November 22 | Encounter |
| Friday, November 27 | Conquest, Glory, Firenze |
| Saturday, November 28 | Magic, Mardi Gras, Paradise, Radiance, Jubilee, Sunshine, Splendor |
| Sunday, November 29 | Celebration, Venezia, Legend, Panorama, Liberty, Pride |
| Monday, November 30 | Freedom, Spirit, Breeze, Adventure |
| Thursday, December 3 | Sunrise, Miracle, Valor, Elation |
| Saturday, December 5 | Horizon, Dream, Vista |
| Monday, December 14 | Luminosa |
The decorating schedule is coordinated around each ship's homeport. Heald explained that the decorations aren't actually put up by the ship's regular crew members. Instead, professional Christmas decorators come aboard at each homeport to transform the ships for the holiday season.
Heald also couldn't resist adding some humor to the announcement, joking about the professional decorators and the Christmas music that will soon start playing throughout the ships. That includes the familiar holiday sounds of Mariah Carey, whose Christmas hit seems to make an appearance just about everywhere once the season gets underway.
If you're booked on a Carnival cruise departing around Christmas or New Year's Eve, there's another bit of good news. The holiday decorations will remain onboard through the New Year's Eve sailings.
Heald confirmed this after several guests asked when the decorations would be taken down. So, if you're sailing into 2027, you won't have to worry about the Christmas trees and festive displays disappearing before your cruise is over.
While Carnival doesn't completely change the decorations specifically for New Year's Eve, most ships will have special celebrations planned to welcome the new year. These typically include countdowns, balloon drops, and festivities throughout the ship.
One of the memorable parts of celebrating New Year's Eve on a cruise ship is being surrounded by hundreds or even thousands of other guests as midnight approaches. When the clock strikes twelve, the ship's horn may sound, the pool deck becomes a giant celebration, and guests and crew members welcome the new year together.
Christmas cruises can be a fun way to celebrate the holidays without having to worry about hosting all the festivities at home. Carnival's holiday decorations add another layer to the experience, and the ships generally keep the festive atmosphere going throughout December and into the New Year.
If you're sailing on Carnival in late November or December 2026, you can use this schedule to see when your ship will officially be decorated. Just remember that the dates listed are the first departures featuring the decorations, so if your cruise begins on or after that date, you should be able to enjoy the holiday atmosphere onboard.
And if you're sailing over New Year's Eve, you'll get to enjoy both the Christmas decorations and the celebration welcoming 2027!
