Passenger Dies After Falling From Balcony Aboard Norwegian Getaway

A passenger aboard Norwegian Getaway died Sunday evening after falling from a balcony onto a lower deck as the ship was returning to Miami. The incident occurred on the final night of a three-night Bahamas cruise. According to passengers, the guest fell from approximately Deck 10 or 11 onto the promenade deck on Deck 7.

Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed the incident, saying the crew responded immediately and attempted to provide life-saving measures, but the passenger did not survive. The cruise line said in a statement, “Our thoughts are with the guest's family during this very difficult time.”

Norwegian Getaway had departed Miami for a three-night sailing that included stops in Nassau and Norwegian's private destination, Great Stirrup Cay.

There are still many unanswered questions about what led to the fall, and neither Norwegian nor authorities have released additional details. For the passengers onboard, it was a tragic end to what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation. Our thoughts are with the passenger's family and everyone affected by the incident.

Good News for Those of Us Who Can't Get Enough Guy's Burgers!

Carnival Cruise Line may be giving burger lovers a little more time to get their favorite meal.

Guests aboard Carnival Conquest have noticed that Guy's Burger Joint has been staying open later than the usual 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. closing time, and Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald has confirmed that the cruise line is testing the extended hours.

Heald says the response has been fantastic, with guests enjoying the chance to grab one of Guy's burgers later in the evening. Carnival chose Conquest for the test because the ship primarily operates shorter three- and four-night cruises, where passengers tend to prefer quick and casual dining options.

There's still no word on exactly how late the restaurant will remain open or whether the extended hours will be offered every day. Carnival is also making it clear that this test won't change the hours of the ship's main dining rooms.

And this isn't the only recent food change getting attention. Carnival is also testing later-night customizable nacho bowls at BlueIguana Cantina, giving passengers another option when they get hungry after the usual dining hours.

For those of us who think a Guy's burger is perfectly acceptable for dinner—or perhaps even a late-night snack this could be very good news.

Now the big question is: Should Carnival make the later Guy's Burger Joint hours permanent across the fleet?

Philadelphia Officially Opens Its New Cruise Terminal

Philadelphia has officially welcomed its new cruise terminal, marking another major step in bringing cruise vacations back to the city.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings and PhilaPort celebrated the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, following Norwegian Cruise Line's historic return to Philadelphia earlier this year. It was the first time a cruise line had sailed from the city in more than 15 years.

The new terminal now provides a permanent home for cruise operations, with Norwegian committed to the market through 2033. Norwegian Jewel is currently sailing from Philadelphia, while Norwegian Pearl is scheduled to begin offering cruises from the city later this year, with itineraries ranging from Bermuda and the Caribbean to Canada and New England.

Norwegian has already announced plans to continue expanding its Philadelphia presence, including seven-day Bermuda and Atlantic Coast cruises aboard Norwegian Gem beginning in summer 2028.

The terminal isn't just about giving cruisers another place to board. The port estimates the cruise operation could generate approximately 2,185 jobs and nearly $300 million in annual economic activity across Pennsylvania.

Norwegian is also investing directly in the local community, announcing $50,000 in donations to a local fire department and three Boys & Girls Clubs.

For cruisers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the surrounding region, the biggest takeaway may be simple: there's now another cruise port in the backyard.

And that's good news for anyone who would rather start their vacation in Philadelphia than make the trip all the way to Florida.

Disney Cruise Line Returning to New York City in 2027

Disney Cruise Line is bringing Disney Wish back to New York City in 2027, giving families in the Northeast a new option for a Disney cruise without having to travel to Florida.

Beginning in September 2027, Disney Wish will offer seven sailings from New York, ranging from four to seven nights. Five of those cruises will visit Bermuda, while other itineraries will explore New England and Canada's Atlantic coast with stops including Boston, St. John, New Brunswick, and Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The New York deployment is part of Disney's newly announced fall 2027 and spring 2028 schedule, which is also expanding options from San Juan, Puerto Rico, while introducing new destinations on upcoming Panama Canal voyages.

Disney Wish will eventually sail from New York to San Juan on a five-night cruise with a stop in Bermuda before continuing with Southern Caribbean itineraries.

For Disney fans, the return to New York is significant because it puts one of Disney's newest ships within easier reach of millions of potential cruisers in the Northeast.

And with Disney continuing to expand its fleet and destinations, it's becoming easier for families to find a Disney cruise without having to start their vacation in Florida.

Royal Caribbean Wants You to Help Name Its Next Cruise Ship Dog

Royal Caribbean's next cruise ship is getting a very important new crew member—and the cruise line wants passengers to help choose her name.

Hero of the Seas, scheduled to enter service in August 2027, will have its own Chief Dog Officer, continuing Royal Caribbean's tradition of having a dog live onboard its Icon Class ships.

After receiving hundreds of name suggestions, Royal Caribbean has narrowed the choices down to seven finalists: Hero, Scout, Marina, Pearl, Coco, Coral and Sandy.

And here's the fun part: the final round of voting is still open.

Royal Caribbean President and CEO Michael Bayley says the final decision will eventually go to a "distinguished panel of judges"—which apparently means himself.

Hero of the Seas will join Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas and Legend of the Seas, which already have their own Chief Dog Officers: Rover, Sailor and Skipper.

So if you've always wanted to have a say in naming a cruise ship's dog, here's your chance.

Which name would you choose?
