If you were planning to book a Carnival cruise, make changes to an existing reservation or take care of some pre-cruise business this weekend, you may want to do wait.
Carnival Cruise Line is scheduled to take its reservation system offline for approximately 18 hours beginning Saturday, August 29, 2026, for planned maintenance.
This isn't an unexpected outage or another Carnival website glitch. The cruise line has scheduled the downtime to perform updates to its reservation systems and while 18 hours may not sound like a long time, it can be inconvenient if you happen to need access during that window.
The approximately 18-hour maintenance window is similar to a planned outage Carnival conducted earlier this year. The important distinction here is that Carnival.com itself isn't necessarily disappearing completely. Carnival's maintenance messaging indicates that the reservation-related portions of the website will be unavailable, while other portions of Carnival.com can remain accessible.
During the maintenance period, cruisers should expect problems with several of the functions that require access to Carnival's reservation system.
That can include:
- Booking a new Carnival cruise
- Making changes to an existing reservation
- Completing online check-in
- Purchasing or modifying certain pre-cruise options
- Accessing reservation-related information that depends on the booking system
In other words, if you've been putting off something that requires access to your Carnival reservation, Saturday may not be the best time to try to get it done and if you're a travel advisor or someone who regularly books cruises for family and friends, the downtime could be particularly important to keep in mind.
One thing worth making clear is that this is planned maintenance, your existing Carnival cruise reservation isn't being canceled because the reservation system is temporarily unavailable.
The previous planned maintenance outage also involved Carnival's reservation systems being unavailable while Carnival performed updates, with reservations remaining intact. So if you log in during the maintenance window and can't access your booking, there's no reason to panic. The system is expected to come back online after the maintenance is completed.
If your cruise is approaching and you haven't completed online check-in yet, don't assume you'll be able to do it during the maintenance period. Carnival's reservation-system maintenance can temporarily prevent online check-in from working.
Nobody enjoys seeing a website go down, particularly when they're trying to manage an expensive vacation, but reservation systems are complicated pieces of technology handling everything from bookings and payments to passenger information and cruise inventory. Carnival has previously explained that scheduled maintenance is used to make updates to its databases and servers.
In other words, this isn't necessarily a sign that something is broken. Sometimes taking a system offline for a controlled period is preferable to trying to make major changes while thousands of people are actively using it.
An 18-hour outage probably won't affect the majority of Carnival cruisers very much. If you're already booked and everything is taken care of, you may never even notice it happened. But for anyone trying to book a cruise, make changes, purchase something for an upcoming cruise or complete online check-in, the timing could be frustrating.
If you happen to check Carnival.com during the outage and find that something isn't working, remember: it's planned maintenance, not necessarily another Carnival website problem. Carnival says the reservation system is expected to return once the scheduled work is complete.
