Aren't Sea Days Boring? - Just the Opposite!

One thing we hear from people who have never cruised is what do you do on a sea day? Isn't it boring? It's just the opposite and the great thing about sea days is that they can be spent different for everyone.

Relax
Some might like to relax. You may have just had a couple of busy port days and need some down time. You can do this in a number of different ways.

Sleep in - You don't need to get up early and get off the ship so you can take your time and get some extra Z's in.

Sit by the pool - Need to sit in the sun and relax? Grab a sun lounger and enjoy the ocean air. The pool can be noisy so maybe an adults only area or a hidden little spot might be in order. Only thing that could make it better might be to have a margarita in your hand.
Spa day - Spend a day in the spa. Maybe a couples massage or some extra pampering might be in order. Some cruise lines have day passes where you can use Aromatic steam rooms and heated chaise lounges. Expect it to be busy as you aren't the only one looking to relax on a sea day.

Explore the ship
Sea days are a great day to explore all the parts of the ship you might not have seen. You just might find a hidden gem or a secret deck. On our first cruise there was a glass floor that looked all the way down to the ocean. We didn't even know it excited until years later and we couldn't believe we never saw it.

Special events
Cruise lines plan special events that only happen on sea days. Like a sea day brunch, ice sculpture carving or catch a matinee showing of the show you missed the other night. Trivia and sport competitions also happen regularly on sea days. Check your daily planner.
Facebook groups organize events that happen on sea days such as slot pulls and pub crawls. If you have never joined a Facebook group for your sailing do so and join one of these events.

Try out the ships unique features
From ropes courses, go carts and Flowriders cruise ships are full of different activities you may not expect. You can even ice skate or ride a rollor coaster on some ships.

Check out specialty restaurants
Sea days are a great day to avoid the buffet and go to one of the specialty restaurants. You can take your time and have a nice meal and maybe even make it a date night.

Use the gym
Port days can be busy so a sea day is a great day to go work off the buffet from the day earlier. The gym might be busy at times so if you want to go at a quieter time go when everyone else is eating.

Enjoy the hot tubs and pools
They can be busy but we love sitting in the hot tubs and meeting new people. We have had great conversations with other cruisers from all over.

Listen to musicians
On almost every ship you will be able to find some type of live music playing. From a solo guitar player to a full band. Cruise lines hire top notch musicians and they are a joy to listen to.

Shop till you drop
Since all the stores will be open it's a great time to pick up that sunscreen you forgot to pack or pick up a gift for someone back home.

Hunt for ducks
That's right, you can hunt for ducks. Little yellow rubber ducks that other cruisers hide around the ship and since everyone is on the ship sea days are a day a lot are hidden.
No matter how you choose to spend your sea day you will not be bored unless you want to be.
