We have another cruise booked!
We're excited to announce that we'll be sailing aboard Carnival Mardi Gras on August 23, 2027, and we can't wait to share the experience with all of you.
If you've followed us for a while, you know that although we enjoy sailing with several different cruise lines, we somehow always seem to find our way back to Carnival. That decision wasn't necessarily an easy one this time.
Like many longtime Carnival cruisers, we were disappointed by the recent changes to the VIFP loyalty program. We know we're not alone in feeling that way, and we still hope Carnival listens to its loyal guests going forward. But at the end of the day, we also had to be honest with ourselves. We genuinely enjoy cruising with Carnival.
The atmosphere is fun, the ships are packed with activities, and there are so many food choices that it's almost impossible to try everything in a single sailing. When we came across an incredible deal for Mardi Gras, it was simply too good to pass up.
In fact the price was so good that we decided to do something we've never done on Carnival before, we booked a balcony cabin! We're really looking forward to having our own private outdoor space, especially on a cruise that's all about slowing down and relaxing.
The last time we sailed on one of Carnival's Excel Class ships was Carnival Celebration, and we absolutely loved it. While we do think the ship's central atrium can feel a little crowded during busy times, there is so much to like about these ships.
One of our favorite design features is the abundance of windows throughout the public spaces. We love being able to look out and see the ocean while walking around the ship, eating a meal, or simply relaxing with a cup of coffee. It's something we really missed on some of the newer ship designs, including our favorite Carnival class overall the Vista Class.
For us, seeing the ocean is part of the cruise experience, and the Excel Class does a great job of bringing those views inside.
This sailing isn't about checking off bucket-list ports for us, in fact, it's a fairly simple itinerary with stops at:
- Celebration Key
- Nassau, Bahamas
- Half Moon Cay
And that's exactly what we wanted for this cruise. After another busy season with work, we're looking forward to a week of sunshine, beach time, and simply relaxing. Sometimes the best cruise isn't the one with the most ports it's the one that gives you a chance to slow down and recharge.
We're especially excited to return to Half Moon Cay, which remains one of our favorite private islands in the Caribbean.
Mardi Gras won't be our first cruise of 2027. We'll also be sailing aboard Carnival Horizon in January 2027, making it our very first repeat ship. We first sailed on her in 2019. We're looking forward to seeing how Horizon compares after several years.
Then, after a busy spring and summer, we'll be back on Carnival Mardi Gras for what we hope will be the perfect relaxing getaway.
As always, we'll be documenting everything along the way. We will be sharing tips before the cruise, embarkation day coverage, cabin tours, food reviews, entertainment, beach days, and plenty of photos and videos throughout the trip.
If you're sailing on Carnival Mardi Gras on August 23, 2027, we'd love for you to join us! We've created a Facebook group specifically for this sailing where everyone can get to know each other before the cruise, ask questions, share plans, and maybe even meet up once we're onboard. We always enjoy meeting fellow cruisers, and we hope you'll join us for what should be an amazing week at sea. (CLICK HERE FOR MARDI GRAS FACEBOOK PAGE)
