If you’re planning a Royal Caribbean cruise in 2026 and wondering whether any ships have completely smoke-free casinos, the short answer is no, but there’s an important distinction that makes the policy a bit more nuanced than it first appears.
Across the Royal Caribbean fleet, smoking is still allowed inside the casino on most ships. However, nearly every ship that operates in standard North American and European itineraries now features designated non-smoking casino sections, meaning you can still enjoy gaming without being in the smoking area. The key issue is that these sections are not always fully separated rooms, and that difference matters a lot depending on your sensitivity to smoke.
Royal Caribbean’s official policy allows smoking in “Casino Royale,” but only in specific areas. At the same time, non-smoking zones are clearly marked inside the casino itself, giving guests the option to choose where they play. This setup is consistent across most of the fleet, especially on modern ships.
As of 2026, Royal Caribbean does not have any ships with a completely smoke-free main casino for all itineraries. Even on the newest and largest ships, smoking is still permitted in designated casino areas while the casino is open.
That said, there are important exceptions depending on where the ship is sailing. For example, some cruises departing from Australia and the United Kingdom operate with no smoking allowed in the casino at all, which effectively creates a smoke-free casino environment on those specific itineraries.
On the other end of the spectrum, certain sailings (such as those from China or Hong Kong) may not include non-smoking casino sections at all, meaning the entire casino environment is smoking-permitted in designated areas.
While no ship offers a fully smoke-free casino across all sailings, some classes of ships are noticeably better for non-smokers.
The newest ships such as Icon Class, Oasis Class, and Quantum Class tend to offer the most modern casino layouts. These include clearly marked non-smoking sections and improved ventilation systems designed to reduce smoke drift between areas. In practice, this creates a more comfortable experience for guests who prefer to avoid smoking zones, even though it is not a fully separated casino space.
A good example is the Oasis-class design, where the casino is large enough to accommodate both smoking and non-smoking sections, with signage and layout separation intended to keep them distinct. Still, because these spaces are not fully enclosed from each other, some guests do report smoke drifting depending on crowd levels and ventilation.
On older vessels, especially those from the Freedom, Voyager, and Radiance classes, the casino setup is more traditional. These ships still follow the standard model where smoking is allowed in designated portions of the casino, and non-smoking areas may be smaller or positioned close to active gaming spaces.
While these ships remain popular, they tend to provide a more noticeable smoking presence compared to newer builds, especially during peak evening casino hours.
The most important thing to understand is that Royal Caribbean has not eliminated smoking from its casinos fleetwide. Instead, it has moved toward a segmented casino model, where smoking and non-smoking guests share the same overall space but are guided into different zones.
For non-smokers, the experience can vary significantly depending on the ship and even the itinerary. Newer ships generally offer a better experience thanks to layout improvements, but even then, there is no true “fully smoke-free casino” across the entire fleet.
The only time you will find a completely smoke-free casino environment on Royal Caribbean is when specific regional regulations require it, such as certain departures from Australia or the UK.
In 2026, Royal Caribbean casinos are best described as partially smoke-free rather than fully smoke-free. Every ship in the mainstream fleet still allows smoking in designated casino areas, but many now include non-smoking sections that give guests an alternative.
If a completely smoke-free casino is a top priority, Royal Caribbean may still not fully meet that expectation. But if you’re comfortable choosing ships with better layouts especially newer classes you can significantly reduce exposure and still enjoy the casino experience.
